CARING FOR YOUR ONCIDIUM

INDOOR CULTIVATION

TEMPERATURE:

We would recommend night temperatures of 10-15oC, and daytime: 15-23oC.

LIGHT:

Your plant will be happiest in good light, but not in direct sunlight.

WATERING:

We always recommend using rainwater, particularly if your orchid is in a sphagnum moss mix. Never stand the plant in excess water and make sure that is allowed to drain away.

HUMIDITY:

High humidity is very beneficial – if you have a dry atmosphere you can place it in a shallow gravel tray with some water. Make sure that the base of the pot is above the water level. Putting the pot on an unturned saucer in would help lift it slightly.

FEEDING:

Feed your plant regularly when you water. We recommend our specialist fertiliser you can purchase here. Around every fourth watering, leave out the fertiliser so any build up can be washed from the compost.

POTTING:

This should be carried out between February and April for young plants and those not producing flower spikes, or in September for flowering size plants. This need to be done every few years, because the spagnum moss and bark start to degrade. We offer a repotting service at £5 per plant/division – contact sales@mcbeans.com to book.
