There are approximately 70 species of Cattleya from the American tropics. They have very flamboyant flowers and a are highly scented. They are named after a Mr John Cattley in the 1820’s who was responsible for establishing the genus for this orchid.


They like temperatures of 14oC to 22oC degrees
They like medium light levels in indirect sunlight and high humidity
We recommend using rainwater when watering/feeding
Flowers may last 5 to 7 weeks
Peak flowering period occurs from Winter to Spring but more commonly in Spring
