History:
This is one of the largest genera in the orchid family, probably more than 1000 species have been described. The species are confined to tropical America. The name comes from the Greek words “pleuron; rib,” and “thallos; shoot” and refers to their riblike stems. The flowers can be delicate or thickly textured.
Details:
- They like temperatures of 15oC to 20oC degrees
- Pot the plant in fine bark with perlite or sphagnum moss
- Like good light but shade in summer – “high summer humidity”
- Normally, watering once each week is sufficient but, during the hot summer months it may be necessary to water twice weekly.
- We recommend using rainwater when watering/feeding
- Water regularly and keep potting media moist
- Normally flowers December-January
